Memphis

Went to Graceland and signed the wall.

Then we went back into Arkansas to take pictures of the city. There was a fire burning, so we went into Memphis to find that fire. It turned out to be an abandoned paper mill on fire…

We also visited the Civil Rights museum, where Martin Luther King, Jr was shot.

Arkansas

Well, I had this post all ready, but then Firefox crashed and I had to reinstall it to make it work again!
Anyway, passing through Oklahoma: Checotah – the home of Carrie Underwood of American Idol fame.

Oklahoma City, OK

I met up with Sandrunner, and we took pictures of the Capitol, then went to a cool gas station/resturant on old US-66 called Pop’s. It was awesome!

Departed Austin, TX

I left Morio’s place around 5:45. I am meeting Jesse and his wife in Waco for breakfast.

Next stop: Okalahoma City!

Thanks again to Morio and his family for their hospitality, and thanks to the Texas VW folks who came to Morio’s party and donated to the fuel fund!

Computer Fixed, pretty much!

Well, the original hard disk is toast. All of my pictures are gone.

I am borrowing an 80GB drive from Morio in Texas. Thanks a bunch!!

Posting this from my newly-formatted install of Vista. It took like 3 hours with all the dang updates. Now I just have to reinstall my map software and re-make the trip map. 😀

Anyone who sent me their address or cell number before, it is lost now. Pleas re-send it to me at timjmcconnell@gmail.com

I’M BACK!

My computer broke due to condensation issues – the hard drive is dead, hopefully I will have it fixed by Monday…
In the mean time, here’s all of the pictures I’ve taken in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas!
Special thanks to Morio in Austin, TX, who I am staying with, and who I am using his computer! 😀

Alabama

I don’t know too much about Alabama. I know that the capital is Montgomery!

There were lots and lots of signs for the different highways. But on the highways themselves, the signs are very sparse – you have to drive 5 miles to see the next speed limit sign.

I passed within 20 miles of Panama City, Florida. It would have been nice to visit if I had more time.
I saw a Turbo Porsche, then a Learjet on a pole. I also saw several helicopters on poles.

Interesting thing: There is a McClure Town right next to Troy, Alabama. You might remember Troy McClure for Simpsons episodes such as “A Fish Called Selma” and “Bart the Mother”
